Engine Work Details

The Range Rover Sport was brought to our workshop following a serious engine failure. Inspection found that the oil pump had failed, causing severe damage to the crankshaft. The failure had also caused extensive damage to the main bearing housing within the engine block. Due to the extent of this internal damage, the original engine was considered beyond economical repair and an engine replacement was recommended.
Further inspection identified considerable oil contamination on the inlet side of both turbochargers. Heavy carbon deposits were also found throughout the inlet system, EGR system and rocker breather covers. Excessive oil leakage was present around the oil filter housing and oil cooler assembly.

The recommended repair work includes:
Engine replacement
Turbocharger set replacement
Rocker breather cover replacement
Oil cooler replacement
Oil level sensor replacement
Thermostat housing replacement
Rectification of the oil leakage around the oil filter housing and oil cooler assembly
Cleaning of the contaminated inlet system
Thorough cleaning of the DPF, exhaust and EGR systems
All necessary service parts and ancillary components

Completing this work together will provide a more comprehensive repair and reduce the risk of contaminated or worn supporting components affecting the replacement engine.
The DPF, EGR and exhaust systems have been exposed to significant oil and carbon contamination. These systems will be thoroughly cleaned as part of the repair, but their current condition and future performance cannot be guaranteed through cleaning alone.
Following the engine work, the DPF, EGR system and associated exhaust sensors will require further testing and monitoring. Any remaining or subsequent faults may require additional diagnosis and the replacement of affected exhaust components, including the DPF.
